Your new labels will fit most any wine bottles. You may want to work at your kitchen table or at your desk where you can sit and have a flat surface to work on.
*Suggestion - If you have any of the non-skid shelf liner or something equivalent, it will help hold your bottle when you are working on the new label placement. One other suggestion would be to work with a partner as the labels can be tricky to apply without getting creases or bubbles. Remove existing label Start with room-temperature wine bottles. Most labels are glued with water-soluble glue, but it can take a little work to remove them. To remove, we recommend you use warm tap water in your kitchen sink. Lay the bottle in the water and soak OR if there is a back label that you do not want to remove, you can use a cloth soaked in hot water and lay it on the front label for about 20 minutes. Every bottle is different and the labels may not come off in one try. You may need to re-soak or reapply the wet cloth on the label until the entire original label is removed. Peel and scrape with your fingernail until the entire original label is off. Once you have the label and glue removed, dry the bottle completely before attempting to apply your new label.
Apply new label Place your clean, dry bottle face up in front of you on a bath towel, forming a gully in the center of the towel (this is where the non-slip product can help laid on the towel). You may want to place a dry towel on either side of the bottle to help keep it from rolling side to side. Notice your new labels are 4 to a sheet. Make sure your hands are clean and dry. Begin by bending the sheet and lifting a label at one corner and lift one label off the sheet. Hold the label on each top corner using both hands, one on either side. This is where a partner can really help; while one is aligning the edge of the label, the other is holding the extra away from the bottle. Align the top edge of the label across the face of the bottle while holding the bottom edge off the bottle. Press the top of the label all the way across to get it in place. Once you are happy with the location, begin to drop the middle of the label and smooth the surface from top to middle making sure large air pockets do not form underneath (small pockets will not affect the application because you can work them out later) If the label begins to turn, you can peel it back off and realign. Be careful not to reposition one label too many times because creases will form in the labels and they may not work out. Once you are satisfied with the placement, drop the bottom of the label and press down and across to secure to bottle. If you see small air bubbles, you can use a smooth round pen or any smooth plastic item to rub over the label, carefully rubbing the bubble toward the label edge until it works the air out. Do not apply too much pressure. Repeat this process for the next bottle.
Additional Information About Waterproof Wine Labels * Take extra care when applying the waterproof or polyester wine labels as they are extremely sticky and once they are stuck....they are almost impossible to remove without tearing. If you get a crease or fold in one, be very careful because the material will tear very easily. The polyester also holds static electricity and will curl the labels easily so when not applying, keep a heavy book on top to keep them flat. Do not be discouraged about purchasing the waterproof labels; just take your time because once these are applied, they will look very professional.
